Tour Overview
The 3-day Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Lake Bunyonyi midrange tour is an exciting tour since it allows one to visit the deepest lake in Uganda, Lake Bunyonyi, and the chance to do a boat cruise and visit its numerous islands, canoe and relax at one of its out looking hills. This tour is a two-in-one since it allows you to trek gorillas from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the park which has half of the mountain gorilla population in the world.
Tour Itinerary
Pick Up, Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi and Afternoon Boat cruise
You will be picked up by a professional guide early in the morning who will brief you about the whole trip and then set off for a journey in the western region of Uganda to Lake Bunyonyi. The journey takes an 8-hour drive from Kampala to Lake Bunyonyi and the distance to cover is 457 kilometres.
You will arrive during lunchtime and relax at a resort overlooking the lake; in the afternoon take a boat cruise along the deepest lake in Uganda and the second deepest in Africa after Lake Tanganyika.
During the boat cruise, you have an opportunity to visit some of the 29 islands on Lake Bunyonyi and spot various water birds like grey corned cranes, herons, egrets, and cuckoos to mention but a few. Return to the resort and check out for a transfer to the Ruhija sector where you will have dinner and an overnight stay in preparation for the next day’s trekking adventure.
Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Community Experience
After an early morning heavy breakfast, with your packed lunch, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park headquarters in the Ruhija sector for a briefing by a ranger guide on what to and what not to do during the gorilla trekking experience. Afterbriefing, hike into the forest looking for the location of these amazing apes, this may take a few hours or even a full day depending on the location of these apes. The activity is strenuous and may require average physical fitness, walking sticks or consider hiring porters to help in carrying heavy luggage.
When you find the mountain gorillas, you will be required to spend one hour with them while taking pictures for memories. It is a worthwhile adventure and so humbling to stand a few meters while watching these sought-after primates as they eat, feed their young ones and do their day-to-day activities in their natural habitat. After the activity, retire to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and your overnight stay.
Transfer Back to Kampala via the Equator
After a cheerful morning breakfast, transfer back to Kampala via the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe where you will have an opportunity to take photos standing in two different hemispheres at the same time. You'll also do the local water experiment that proves the earth is split up into two hemispheres - the north and the south hemispheres. Have lunch en route. You will then proceed to Kampala or Entebbe Airport for your departure.
