Tour Overview

Uganda could be considered “a prime primate destination” in East Africa as it is home to 20 different species of primates (14 diurnal and 6 nocturnal). These can be found in the forest and savanna parks around the land of contrasts and colors. The 9 days primate safari is an all (only primate) tour to Uganda’s parks with the famous primates. It start from the mid-west in Kibale Forest to the South West in Mgahinga Gorilla national park back to Entebbe.

Arrival and pick up

Today you arrive at the airport and our representatives will pick you and transfer you to the hotel/Lodge. Depending on your arrival time, you can have optional activities. You shall rest here as you await the adventure the next day.

Transfer to Kibale Forest National park (Night Nature walk)

Kibale forest is Uganda’s premier chimpanzee tracking destination. Today we shall drive from Entebbe to the forest through various towns and landscapes arriving early afternoon. We shall check in and rest as we prepare for the evening where we shall do a night nature walk as we try to find the nocturnal primates like the pottos and galagos. We shall return to the lodge for an overnight.

Chimpanzee Habituation and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park

East of the Rwenzori Mountains, the landscape is pocked with beautiful crater lakes and carpeted with tea plantations, but of course the tropical forest of Kibale is home to 13 species of primates including the chimpanzees. Here, chimpanzee tracking is famous, but there is a new one- chimpanzee habituation that gives more time with the chimpanzees and is more engaging. We shall do chimpanzee habituation, join the team of people that do the habituation process for more than 4 hours. When you return, we shall drive to Queen Elizabeth National park.

Kyambura Gorge Chimpanzee tracking and Boat in the Afternoon

Queen Elizabeth National park enjoys a fabulous rift valley location at the foot of Mt Rwenzori between Lakes George and Edward. It support savanna, forest, acacia woodland, wetlands, open water. The riparian strip of forest-Kyambura Gorge houses the only community of chimpanzees at the park. Today we shall have walk in the river valley, to track chimpanzees and later return to the lodge. The gorge is also home to the Vervet monkeys, baboons, Black and white colobus monkeys, and the less seen resident the Red tailed monkey. In the afternoon after our lunch, we shall have a boat cruise in the mix. A relaxed cruise safari on the Kazinga Channel as we tick of birds, mammals and other wildlife that come to the banks of the channel. We shall later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Kalinzu Forest primate tour and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park

On the Kasese-Ishaka Road, the Kalinzu forest houses a population of the medium altitude forest. It is the second most reliable Chimpanzee tracking destination in Uganda. The forest is home to eight primate species and we shall walk through in search of Chimpanzees and other primates that the forest will offer for the day. After we shall have lunch and continue to Ruhija in the Eastern part of Bwindi Impenetrable national park. We shall have an overnight at,

Gorilla tracking

Uganda’s single most important tourist hotspot is the 331sqk Bwindi forest that covers a rugged landscape of steep hills and valleys abutting the Congolese border south of Ishasha sector. The forest provides shelter to some of Africa’s diverse mammalian fauna that includes half population of mountain gorillas and the main activity here is gorilla tracking. Today we shall drive to the head offices of Bwindi Forest Park for orientation and briefing before we hit the trails for an amazing encounter with the mountain gorillas. The activity can last 3-8 hours depending on the location of gorillas. If you return early you will visit the Batwa community in the afternoon. We love to do tours that impact or benefit the community.

Morning nature walk/ primates and transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National park

Today we shall have a morning nature and try to find the other 10 of the 11 primates at Bwindi impenetrable national park. We shall have a ranger leading us on the walk and alter when we return we shall transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National park. Day 6 focused on gorillas, today we search for the other species of primates at the park before our departure.

Golden Monkey tracking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

The zig zag outline the Virunga volcanoes dominates the southern part of the Kigezi Landscape. Today after breakfast, we shall ascend through the contrasting vegetation and search for the golden monkeys. The golden monkeys are the second best thing to do at Mgahinga after gorillas. After seeing these primates, we shall drive to Lake Bunyonyi for an overnight.

Return to Entebbe and Departure

Today we drive from Bunyonyi to Entebbe. This will be after a morning island tour on the lake to visit some of the few famous of the 29 islands like the Punishment Island and the Leprosy Island. We shall drive on a smooth road, crossing the equator and we shall drop you at the airport for exit.
